To Live Poem by Philip Geoffrey Lock

To Live

To live each moment to its fullest
And know the blessing of each day
To know the strength of yielded heart
A life constrained by no man's gaze

To make the most of every season
Not yearning back for blessings past
To vision greatly future things
Yet want them not to come more fast

To let each day be fresh beginning
Expectant for all that it will bring
To be no less joyful meeting trials
Knowing whose hands your life is in

To slip and fall and stand again
Then walk with no less poise intact
To leave behind all guilt and shame
Yet be in freedom never lax

To fight with passion strength and purpose
Confident in victory won
To let accusing clouds pass by you
Head turned up to feel the sun

To love and lose and know rejection
Then give out all your heart once more
To make mistakes but learn no fear
Yet grow to love more than before

To lightly laugh though warfare rages
And with others grieve though your way's clear
To serve and fight for those against you
And in love confront those you hold dear

To live each day as if your last
Yet build that which will not fade or rust
To risk your all without a qualm
But never reckless with your trust

To slow forget the good of others
Yet take their faults from memory far
To choose to see them as they will be
So helping them be who they are

To view beauty in the plainest flower
And cherish that which none else see
To meet that so lovely men would die for
But know just a glimpse of God there be

To love with all the love that fills you
Yet never grasp or hold too strong
To be hurt, forgive and trust again
Not holding on to others' wrongs

To shine your light in darkest places
And when none see still keep it bright
To hold on though alone and weary
Yet move on free when time is right

To call all place home yet none at all
And live the promise, not the past
To be yourself in grace-found glory
Trusting love that will forever last

This is to know Christ's life in you
