To N.A.H. (An English Teacher) Poem by Mike Barrett

To N.A.H. (An English Teacher)

Worry you
Of image tarnished?
Stature shrunk
By years' perspective?
Feeling once
As a golden nugget clasped -
But now a gem
Not quite so highly valued?

It's more than absurd
How our silly or fancied fears can be -
For,
As you were treasured then,
So will you always be -
By me!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was written in 1963 in appreciation of the contribution my grade 10 English teacher, Miss Norma A. Hatfield, made in encouraging my interest in poetic expression. I learned many of the tools used in poetic expression during the '58-'59 school year.
