To You, Dad Poem by Kimberly Santistevan

To You, Dad

Rating: 1.5

I said my good-byes to you today, dad.
And I miss you already.
Even though I will be able to see you almost every week,
It's not going to be the same.

As I was saying bye to you today,
It was snowing outside.
It was falling and falling.
Just like the tears that are coming down my cheek.

You said that you're just down the road,
And I know that,
But it's just not the same as you being in the house with me.

I thought about how long you are going to be gone.
And I realized that you are going to miss my seventeenth birthday,
The birth of your grandchild,
Your wife's birthday,
Your birthday as well.

You will be gone for six months and some odd days,
And I wish I had something good in my mind to say.

I miss you already dad,
And I want you home.
But you have to do your time and it's your responsibility to do so.

It is going to be hard not to see you each morning and say goodnight each evening,
But I will try hard not to cry as much as I need to.

I just want you to know,
That I love you so much dad
And I will miss your dorky attitude and your big bright smile.
So, I will see you in a week I hope.
