Today In The Noon Day Heat Poem by Raymond Farrell

Today In The Noon Day Heat

Today
In the noon day heat
When the sun's rays
Beat down
Like a celestial hammer
On the earth's
Terrestrial anvil
I walked
The back street
Parallel
To Lai Ji Ji street
All the stores
Were closed
And my presence
Was met
With cold stares
Coming through
Frosted panes
Suddenly
A motorcycle
Rounded the corner
Driven
Fast and furious
It roared
Up the middle
Of the street
Like a ball of fire
Scorching
The asphalt
Then disappeared
Leaving
A cold
Vacuous
Silence
And me
Alone
Trying
To gather
My thoughts.
