Top Game Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Top Game

Rating: 5.0

Game of tops
Played everywhere
My childhood game
Tops them all.

Hemishpere on top
Of an inverted cone
Turned out of wood
With a pointed pin
Colors painted
To please the viewer
And a yard long cord
To pull it to spin
The spinning top
Now ready to turn.

Friendly bunch
Each with a top
Gather in the shady
Tamarind grove
Pull the string
At ready signal
One who spins top
In palm of the hand
Fast and quick
Moves on ahead
And one who is last
Is called the victim
Whose top's
Laid on the ground
Others keep hitting
With spinning tops
To direct it to
The target line
Anyone missing will
Retire from attack
The remaining proceed
Till target's reached
Or it may end
When everyone retires
The game then starts
All over again
The victim left
With a battered top.

Childhood days
Memories roll
What fun it is
To pull the cord
Spin the top
And feel on top
Of the world set
In a turning mode.
