Top Hats And Canes Poem by Johannes kolm

Top Hats And Canes

Rating: 5.0

I walk down the street with this old top hat and cane.
people see me and whisper a bane
they see not the person inside
they see only what comments can be snide
I walk down the street with this old top hat and cane.
I dress like a sir
to hide from the spur
of growing up poor
the top hat shows a wealth I do not have
the cane is there to defend what I do
I walk down the street with this top hat and cane.
I select my clothes from thrift shops abound
riffling the shelves around
to find the gold
that has fallen from a dead man
picking through the coins in my pan
to afford to cloths of a rich man
I walk down the street with this top hat and cane.
I do not lie
if I multiplied my wealth by Pi
I would still be poor because
my wealth is not in coin or golden bars
its in the friends i find
interested in my hat and cane
I walk down this street with not only my top hat and cane
but with all the friends i have made
we all walk down the street with a top hat and cane.
