Touching Interior Talent Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Touching Interior Talent

Rating: 4.0

Eyes looking into the mirror, seeing a reflection I don't
always recognize, sometimes still half asleep, too early
for getting up after being awake all night.

Writing poetry and posting it, forever taking time to listen
to rhythms and their music, never being bored, because it's
so thrilling.

Touching interior talents, blending them, finding an excite-
ment, making me smile and feel elated, a tremendous feeling
that stays constantly within.

Never stop listening to all types of music, melodies and
harmonies, even if I have nothing to plug into, I just begin
composing and continue dancing no matter what, in my mind.

In the second stanza you say you are never bored, and that is not a passive condition, it doesn't just happen. You created a mindset that is alive to both the moment and to eternity. That's why you're not bored but on the contrary are enthused. Too many people say they're bored as an excuse so they don't need to try. (I know this from 34 years of teaching. Sic.) The third stanza joyfully declares this is because of a perpetual readiness to act on inspirations you are alert to. The poet Fernando Pessoa called this condition: A-L-W-A-Y-S A-S-T-O-N-I-S-H-E-D. The opening and closing stanzas show the result of such readiness in interacting with other poets and interacting with music. I recently attendrd a concert with friends of the Country singer Steve Earl whose energy and immense voice blew me away. My music is usually Mozart and Brahms. But nothing can compare to the sheer power and charge that comes from live performances of country and rock that pull us together.
