Tram Bridge Poem by Andrew Rimmer

Tram Bridge

Steep steps ascending of dressed cut stone,
By man's skilled hand hewn and hone.
Worn back into true life; nature's ceaseless call,
By many a travelling man's tired footfall.

Majestic Tram Bridge; monument of times past,
Industrial heritage straddling times surpassed.
Mere architectural grandeur losing sway,
Purposes restored as busy trail and cycle highway.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The imposing tram bridge in Preston's Avenham Park starddles the River Ribble and has been recommissioned into a cycleway that enters into the city centre.
