Tree Of Trust Poem by Rhuta Joshi

Tree Of Trust

After the birth of my relations,
I soon sowed a seed of trust;
Packed in the soil of truth
Deep inside the crust.

I nourished it with love,
I watered it in care
And I noticed it after all
Pop out tiny leaflets bare.

My laugh became its melody,
My truth became its might,
My smile was its manure
And I saw it sway in delight.

Its roots grew deeper down
As its shoot raced for the sky;
Soon my little plant-let
Transformed into a tree
Strong and high.

Then hope brightly sunned it
As it spread a shade of love
And blossomed flowers of dreams
With fruits of joy above.

With everything so smooth and sweet
It was a sudden time for dark
When I found an axe in my hand
With a blade of lies, so sharp.

I gripped the axe tight
And moved on, lost, towards my tree.
Yet ignoring its sense of danger
Trust bent to caress me.

I raised my hand,
I struck it hard with lies
And I don't know why I had
A deaf ear to its cries.

But out came the sap
Out of the cut made so deep-
A sticky sap of guilt
Meant for me to keep.

I now continue trying
To guard and nurse my trust
And heal it off adversity
Having the sap of guilt with me
To be stored for eternity!
