Truck Of Dreams
My beautiful monster, you’re stronger than me
I love you more than snarks or dragons
I put all my dreams on your back
as we drive along this stretch,
some have fallen into the ditch
I’ve been looking all over for them
oh well, who needs a couple dreams?
when I have you and the rest of these
sitting in the back like my dead puppies.
Are you just a ghost, my truck?
a phantom of my bereaved imagination?
Will all my dreams die with you,
or are you just the beginning?
I feel another one falling out
as we rattle down this rocky road
I could stop and pick it up,
funny, I don’t remember it though
like a song I used to love,
words for a book that wouldn’t come,
faces of people that flash by the window
they look vaguely familiar
I should stop and talk to them
words that wouldn’t come.
I keep seeing litter on the side of the road
deep down it feels wrong,
people should care more about this world
then the whispers come in, “Isn’t it doomed anyway? ”
I had a friend that didn’t like me to talk that way,
“You’re not dead” he said once
maybe I am, that’s why the road seems so long.
There’s a nice wayside rest ahead
I should really pull over, but I’m afraid
afraid that the litter isn’t that at all
but dead animals, body parts,
or other people’s dreams
if I see that, I’ll lose hope on my own
ever finding the ones that are lost
ever searching out the ones I still have
Are they even still in the truck?
You can call me paranoid, that’s one on my list,
there could just be sweet guys there
like in the Toby movie
but maybe they’re screwed-up too
you can’t trust anyone these days,
they might just steal my 'Thunder truck'
taking all my dreams with it
(if they’re dead though it wouldn’t matter)
like they took Homeboy away
but even that had a happy ending,
does anything really have one?
