Trust You Must! Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Trust You Must!

Rating: 5.0

Such lofty standards through and through
Doubt even you could live up to you
In place of perfection will you accept an I.O.U.?
And if someone should be able to pass your test.
Would they be kept under house arrest?
And if they passed your virtuous white glove
Would it then be safe for you to love?
And if you loved would you accept the view
That the same standards should apply to you?
Somehow I think such scrutiny would never do
Because love that is measured in every tangible way
Has a tendancy to go astray or run away
Because the best of love is given free
No way to make it unsinkable
Love without risk would be so unexciting
So predictable...So unthinkable
So lighten up your titan hellhound grip
and take a chace of a fall or slip
Just before you board this ship
loosen up your upper lip
Sit in the middle so it doesn't tip
Only sissys ask for guarantees
Wear a life vest if you please
To fall in love...Trust you must
Or all of love will turn to rust
