Truth's Obscure Potential Poem by gershon hepner

Truth's Obscure Potential

By exaggerating the essential
and leaving what is obvious vague
you may discover truth’s obscure potential
that reason will exhort you to renege.

Inspired by a saying by Vincent van Gogh, “…to exaggerate the essential and leave the obvious vague” cited by Shaul Magid in the frontpiece of From Metaphysicas to Midrash: Myth, History, and the Interpretation of Scripture in Lurianic Kabbala (Bloomington,2008) .
