Tumor Poem by Ray Andrews

During a break in my twelve
Step meeting, my friend Joe
Told several of us he has a tumor.
In his colon. It is cancer. The tumor
Is small and the outlook is good.
The treatment sounds terrible.

Joe has been addiciton free
For over twenty years. The program-
To which he is very dedicated-is
A spiritual program. It teaches
Serenity, acceptance and brotherly
Love. I think Joe will do well
With his cancer. I doubt
That he will succumb to self pity
And fear.

You never really know these things in advance.

It makes me wonder what's inside of me.
