Turning Away Poem by Samantha Stough

Turning Away

Wish I could be perfect,
Wish I could close my eyes and go numb
Wish the pain didn’t exist
Wish I cared about all of the bad things you’ve done

You hurt me all the time with all your misleading
You run before I give you a chance to stay
You probably only care about yourself
You wouldn’t blink if I said I missed you someday

Truth is I think your perfect just the way you are
Truth is in so many ways, you’re just like me
Truth is you’re all that ever felt real
Truth is without you, I can’t be free

But this time, I promise, I’ll turn the other cheek
But only if you lead me to believe you did the same
But I’ll always hope and wish you’ll miss me
But only myself I’ll always blame
