Turning Phrases Poem by Sam Fitts

Turning Phrases

Have you ever noticed that a simple
Turn of phrase can make something innocent
Into gruesome acts of malice? Such as
Referring to mowing the lawn as a
Socially necessary act of some
Botanic decapitation. What kind
Of mental imagery does that invoke?
Little screaming blades of grass, getting their
Necks sliced just to prevent reproduction?

haha just curious, did mrs. kemper's comment about being careful not to be mangled by the lawn mower inspire this poem? cus if so, that's funny! i wrote one about that remark but it's still being edited cus it's just not post-worthy yet! kudos!

I agree with Kylie! Very sad blades of grass. Clever!

I really liked this poem. Poor little blades of grass. I can just picture the small baldes of grass screaming. Good job!
