Twilight Poem by Hazel Durham

Twilight

Rating: 5.0

Twilight is a time for her to turn around and walk home,
To a place where she never felt alone
To see the glory and fall of her emotions cascading down the mountainside,
As her home was found in a place where people had smiles so wide,

In the embrace of Slievenamon's sultry gaze and enviable charm
Of the mountain hugging it's offspring sweet and warm,
They were surrounded by lush green pastures of working farms,
She had entered this world silently bursting with an emotional volcano,

She gathered her life-force from nature's best show,
But the devils poison was her only foe,
She tasted the freedom like the energy of a rivers flow,
Constant drama in her daily show,

She fell in love with the essence of laughing at the joy of living,
The locals uniting her heart and soul in a place
That rested the darkness to it's secret garden as her smile lit up her face,
No more need to chase

Dreams that always dissolved in the light of day,
She had found her dream in her own nervous way,
But her addiction became a symbol of destruction every day,
She had to escape home to roam

The country roads to find a better way,
Never again did she find home,
As the twilight enhances Slievenamon's sultry, tempting haven
But perched on her shoulder is that dark raven,

Just forever deep within her is the shadows of Slievenamon in the twilight,
She has struggled to fight the darkness,
Today she rises to face the sun that dissolves those demons of the night,
Her mind has been set free with the beauty of the twilight.

Beautiful and haunting imagery in a dreamy-like atmosphere, with contrasts of light and darkness streaming perfectly through the poem; analogous to the emotional turmoil; and the twilight's triumph at the end.

Loved the poem as ma'am Mihaela says for its ' Beautiful and haunting imagery.' At lease at the twilight of her life she has an awakening which dissolves all the darkness of her life.

You tell an intriguing story here, Hazel. You placed your reader quickly inside your poem's character and we saw the environment and we felt the character's thoughts and emotions as if they were our own. It's a wonder I didn't feel the touch of chill as the twilight air touched her cheeks. Very good poetic storytelling skills here

Today she rises to face the sun that dissolves those demons of the night, Her mind has been set free with the beauty of the twilight. Here we see a forlorn soul emerging from the shadows of darkness and brightening with the crimson hue of twilight........ A beautiful poem that ends in a positive note!
