I would wish for a man
To love me, maybe,
Without laughter or contempt
Of my years…
I could hope he would treat
My worn, weathered husk
Of a life with respect, and some
Dignity
Never smirking at my faded youth
Or the crows feet by my ojos,
I could wistfully crave
That he might love me, not,
As a last resort of desperation
Because he could not get a better woman
For wouldn’t it be
A great experience to be loved,
Simply because he loves you,
And that’s all there is to it?
Oh! For a man with gentleness
Who does not strike one with impatience;
A man on whom one can depend for soft words,
Graciousness, after a hard day.
A man with whom one can stand before the anos
-And love, and still be loved back!
Drink Tea with, and talk with
About the days events and life..
I would long for a man who does not mind
My chipped nails and hands;
Smudged with soil from my little jardin.
But one who would kneel beside me,
And smile at my work, taking pleasure
From my little contribution,
Though insignificant
I wish for a person, who eyes,
Are the most beautiful mirrors to see
Oneself in.
A man to whom one might speak of a book..
I could wish for a man who does not say
Aloud those words I hear so much; “stupid woman.”
But might instead say “Oh my dear, I love you so.”
I wish too much I think;
And I could throw my hopes out like our dream-catchers,
To coax the pearls of fish I know are
Lurking somewhere deep.
But I think that my lines would
Smear and run away down the page over time
As I look to the mountains for a person
Who is never coming…
Mi Dios, might I have?
A home with whom I can shelter?
Stand the hurts of life’s rain and
Mystical blows?
For all
I really wish for is un homme, senor or sahib,
A plain, lonely man that I could love…
