Un-Practical Poem by James Meaney

Un-Practical

That feeling in my gut
the words that you say
I wish we could be together
I know it shouldn't be that way
Cause I have plans, you do too
Future thoughts, adventures,
that we want to pursue
I wish it didn't matter
our lives in this light
I wish no one cared
if we left away, gone tonight
we sit here making talk
my heart heavy with grief
I want to tell you for all that you are
but why be that heart dropping thief
running away isn't practical
in any sense or shape
though the thought of such things
gives me a small mindless escape) :
