Unconditional Love

Could it have been because of the above
that, despite the smart-arsed love
of those on his own side,
anti-hero, a well-regarded, poised and confident man
envied only by the mean,
in broad daylight,
went from door to door,
and slowly and effectively intricated those behind
into the war
those arses were responsible for?
