Undone Poem by Barbara Villabol

Undone

Their lives came together
Wine by the seaside
Hands entwined

Morning messages
Mid-night Eros
Revelations
Compassions

His propitious suggestions of
Continued companionship
Increasingly moved her from watchfulness
To confidence, possibility and trust

His former optimism
Now tersely removed
With his rebuke that she
Was ungrounded
A pauper and a fool

His journey in her presence
A pathway she came to treasure
He took for a time
As it pleased him

One by one he had unwittingly crafted
Estrangement from those who loved him
Even the one he had cherished
As his little China doll

Her love rejected
Withdrawal too soon
She lamented the discourteous
Dismissal of her devotion

There was no respite from her sorrow
There was no balm
Anguish inexhaustible
Ocean waves suggested reprieve

Desire to live prevails but such a toll
This loss, oh this loss.
