Unexpected Grace Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Unexpected Grace

I saw a side of you this morning
as our grandaughter was crying
It happened without warning
as her tears you were drying

I saw you gently brush her golden hair
Back softly from her face
as you touched her with your care
I felt a moment of unexpected grace

She awoke from her dreams
and somehow she was crying
her tears like little streams
broken only by her sighing

It was a softer side of you I saw
I side of you I never see
as I rested near in awe
and let the two of you be

I saw love in your eyes
Though no longer shining on me
In a moment of surprise
It was somehow healing to see

If not for the love we shared
This little angel would not exist
And maybe if we never cared
This tender moment would be missed

love does never leave us
It sometimes feels like hurts and pains
But if you make it through the sadness
Caring there remains
