Unhappiness Poem by Shalom Freedman

Unhappiness

UNHAPPINESS

Days go by
And I in my unhappiness go on also
Friends are sick
My wife and I
Each have our pains and our ailments
Violence and cruelty take innocent lives
And bring injury to others
We are hated by strangers we do not know
A sense of threat of our destruction is always with us
The weather is worse than before
Fanatics everywhere rule and murder
We have no clear promise of what the future will be
Old age is difficult and sad
There is no way I can make it all alright
For most of it is beyond me
I will leave this world
With so much unresolved and unknown
I cannot possibly be at peace with it all
I go in my unhappiness.
