Unholy Conversion Poem by Chris Jibero

Unholy Conversion

Rating: 4.0

By unknown means a vulture converts
overnight to a flourishing eagle
strange plumage displayed
in questionable acquisition
but to higher heights flight
becomes encumbered and tedious
weighed down by glory without address
goals undefined, path uncharted,
focus hazy, chirps crude and throaty

Gait gained in a haste to belong
eagle outside but vulture inside
a laughable contraption
a usurper of a throne isn't a king
but a pretender
for kingship is a process
neither borrowed nor stolen
conferred by man
approved by God
acquire it dubiously, lose it ingloriously
knocked down from exalted height
by undue applause, marooned
and exotic feathers withdrawn by owners
being ridiculed, cut to size and
refined in the throes of ignominy
for only he that will be alive to learn.
