Unopened & Closed Poem by Jake Walker

Unopened & Closed

Upon there wood runes be scratched
with a silent click as we draw the latch back.
We lurk in the shadows with darkness embedded;
The flash of lightning, intrepid it stands tall,
and remains from spring and travels to fall.

Those breezes caress the ebony surface,
While moons cast gazes.
A door brilliant and perfect,
Glowing in starlit hazes.

Alone it sits, hinged to nought
but the air invisible with disguise in darkness fought.
Hinged shut, blockade in futility
with a heavenly torch, to flood the field and vanquish invisibility:

The door that opens to nothing, yet closes to everything.
Never moving and unyielding, to the coming of hell,
or the birds and their singing.
Twitter in spring and caw in the night;
The runes illustrate a human in flight.

Unopened and closed, paradoxically free,
We stand inert like an ebony tree.
