Untitled Poem by Delia Darling

Rating: 5.0

A stitch and a hitch
hiked up skirt
and a pattern divine
a hint of lace on the sewn dress
finished, it's placed on the girl

A painted pain filled face
careful stroke of the brush
nope. it's done. over with. Wrong.
Thrown to the broken box called Hell
off to the carnival of Devils

This doll is guilty.

It hits the box with the others
Crack
goes it's head. Right through it's painted eyes
pain-filled and yet sorrowful
Didn't even have it's mouth on
It's silent.
Doomed to a life of silence
Anxiety and agony
Timid and shyness
Hesitance

This doll is broken

It begins scratching the box
wanting to get out.
It doesn't want to be labeled as 'broken' just because of one little thing.
Cracked fingernails become apparent
Wood stained crimson and with the pain comes
nothingness.

The doll is gone.
dragged into the carnival
where she becomes the pained doll
with the cracked face and torn fingernails

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired (slightly) by the musical short: The Devil's Carnival. I wrote it in about twenty minutes at the end of the day right before my high school's Poetry Club where I got some very positive feedback. Thought I'd share elsewhere.
