Unwritten Poem by Rebekah Gamble

Unwritten

The rain falls on the roof
With a sound like comfort,
Steady and strong.
We lay here in bed
After being entwined
And feeling the close need
Of our humanity.
Skin to skin,
Breath to breath,
We lay here.
Your heat coats my skin
With contentment
Like a thick, heavy, covering syrup.
Your hand is strong on me
And holds me against your frame,
Warm and safe.
The rain falls, falls,
In slow, steady, hard breaths.
It comes faster sometimes.
Your breath warms my neck.
I press myself closer to your flesh,
Wanting to hold this feeling
Like a pearl cupped in my hands.
I kiss you lovingly,
Wanting to lean into your warmth,
Your security, your comfort,
Like I want to draw my face
Into the warm love of a mid-winter fire.
The rain beats on
With the march of our heartbeat,
Undeterred.
