Vandalize Utopia Poem by Victoria Annette Bailey

Vandalize Utopia

You were always beautiful
A hostage held in heaven,
You escaped on a passing storm
And fell at gone eleven.
Intact in our debris,
Brushing silver from your eyes,
You sing the highest octave
Look in misery to the sky.
On your cloud you always wondered
How the Earth would taste
You wanted to run through the woods
And waves to stroke your face.
Curiosity got the better of you
You stepped down from your cloud
Waved goodbye to harmony
And fell; expectant and proud.
I see beyond the pseudonym
I see beyond the name,
You are naked, tongue of gasoline
Body licked by flames.
Fresh eyes to be polluted
Innocence to slay,
Stoicism of a Stepford wife
Naiveté unscathed.
Virgin feet know no direction
You bear them as a curse,
While the iron toes around you
Await the absent hearse.
Filthy demons line the highway
You retract your wings and crawl,
Gravity is your enemy
He prevents you standing tall.
Glowing white on the skyline
In heavy contrast to the ground,
You sway unspoken solitude,
The only angel I have found.
We ignored the warnings
Nothing stays the same,
Perfect as you breathe our air
With us, you share the blame.
Your lungs are made for oxygen
While ours are made for fumes,
The land ravaged by Lucifer
From the thorns, you bloom.
I’m standing on the highway,
You dropp a coin as you go by
But ignore the cardboard sign I hold,
‘The apocalypse is nigh’.
Angels choke on devastation
And hell’s not made for light,
There’s too much distinction in your veins
And for you, my fate is too tight.
The wire’s falling from your back
Your shoulder blade extends
Feathers blossom, mock the Earth,
From where did you descend?
I can only guess at paradise
Your light destroys our Moon,
We were content with thinking this is it,
But we had just become immune.
In a world devoid of dreaming,
Where inspiration dies,
Where ambition simply wilts on touch,
We content ourselves with lies.
Overdressed and under prepared
You rob us of our sight,
We bleed for everything you changed
You giggle and take flight.
