Violation I Poem by ARUN D'CRUZE

Violation I

DAILY CHORE OF THE VILLAGE GORI

A moffusil town
tranquil and serene
sleepy, 'please donot intervene'
awakening is forbidden,
surrounded by villages green.

A girl approached womanhood,
to be given in marriage at eighteen,
Fun of marriage, she understood,
But leaving parents, kith and kin,
younger siblings of her parents
dear to her, they are growing,
after prolong chores, mom needs rest,
farmwork, care for animals in the evening.

stitching kantha in the rainy afternoon,
during winter simmer the ras of date
for hours to make patali, dark brown.
woods and leaves for fire to collect.
regular affair in the months of winter.
In blistering months of summer,
when white pumpkins are ripe and sour
with urad dal, soaked in water,
fresh fragrant masala
for taste and flavour,
little hot pepper,
stoneground, finer and finer
beaten to a mash, whiter,
aeration with a whisker,
delicacy vegan, non-veg to spare,
piped by hand on a net wire,
dried in sun, wadi triangular,
from mom she learnt better.

mother also prepare
pickles and vinegar.
mango, chilli garlic pearls
lemon, vegetable cut and curls
with oil, spices and vinegar,
salt is essential,
for longevity entire.
Lemon scratched, and preserved
in salt, in bottles with regard.

GORI= FAIR VILLAGE BELLE.
