Walking Is Freedom Poem by Shalom Freedman

Walking Is Freedom

WALKING IS FREEDOM

Walking is freedom
It is moving at my own pace-
It is not waiting inside for the other cars to move
It is going by them-
My world is as big as the sky I see
The long panorama of endless distance-

I walk with freedom into an incredible space
I enjoy it so much
I feel my own body’s strength in it
I have time today to walk and walk
I am free for now
And enjoying my life
Step by step
Stride by stride
Breath by breath
Dream by dream
Into the distance.

'Walking is freedom It is moving at my own pace- It is not waiting inside for the other cars to move It is going by them- My world is as big as the sky I see The long panorama of endless distance-' especially loved the first stanza, reminded me of a poem I wrote decades ago, I think 'Shadows On The Road', must have been the waking and that beautiful line, 'The long panorama of endless distance-'' which was so exquisite :)
