Wannabee Poem by Paul Jaggard

Wannabee

Wannabee
We want to be posh we will do all that we can
Quick honey lets sell the van
We'll buy a big car with a private number plate
With a Mercedes badge that the neighbours will hate
We can't really afford it, we'll go to the bank
But just keep on thinking how highly we'll rank.

Were posh now, its official, the car is outside
But it's making the house look so cheap and deprived
Let's get some new windows, and a new front door
Our neighbours will hate it, but our ranking will soar.

Our clothes need updating we've got a rebate on tax
Lets take the Mercedes to TK Maxx
Lacoste, Gucci, Armani, Ralph Lauren
We now look better than the clock of Big Ben.

We've got it all now, so i'm off to the lav
Oh god i've just realised, I'm still a chav.

as i read a definition of chav in an online dictionary (i'm 'american' and was unfamiliar with the term) , it seems to refer to a 'lower life form' of humans...........though i'm sure there can be some very nice chavs. not every person is born to be as intelligent and classy as paul and me! and 'lav' refers to bathroom? nice rhyme, though it seemed a bit strange, (maybe not) , the have the character say he? was going to the bathroom as if that was where he/she intended to go before acquiring the car, clothes, etc. thanks for the poet note re the poem. it was a cute peek at the minds of those who are perhaps reaching beyond their means....or whatever. i was familiar with the store name T J Maxx, but not T K Maxx. i thought you had mistyped until i looked through google. thanks for sharing. any more poems to offer poemhunter readers?
