War...Why? Poem by Robert Gardner

War...Why?

Rating: 4.8

Oh what is happening? Why has war been encrypted here,
On this once peaceful earth, why have humans created it...war
Guns and bombs slowly dropping down,
And people wait, innocently, hoping not to lose there lives.
Oh! If you had been there on the battlefields,
If you could here at every jolt,
The froth corrupted lungs spill out the crimson liquid of death, blood.
If you could see his eyes rolling to his head,
A final time.
And if you could here his final moments of weeping and despair
You would not so eagerly support the corruption of politics,
Or be so patriotic!
If only you could be there as to here the end, of mankinds son,
If you had to trudge, carrying his still lifeless body,
You would not, rush to war,
But you would hesitate and think...why?
