Waterbuck - Lincoln Park Zoo Poem by Ima Ryma

Waterbuck - Lincoln Park Zoo

A waterbuck - am I a deer?
No, because I'm an antelope.
And what's the name of my headgear?
Should it be named an antler? Nope!
The proper name is horn - a pair
Which an antelope does possess.
While antlers are sheddable wear,
Horns are permanent fixtures - yes!
And the horns of a waterbuck
Spiral up and out in graceful art,
But pierce with fateful force when struck,
A lasting message to impart.

Come visit the Lincoln Park Zoo,
And I will wave my horns for you.
