Waves Poem by Kristien Blend

Waves

The waves crash onto the moon drenched shore
the foaming waters retreat slowly
only to crash again
slapping against the bone white surface
glowing in the pale wash of moonlight.
The waves of pain are all that keeps
the shore company in the dark night
When the gulls are silent
and the boats are docked
rocking slowly by the piers.
When all there is to do is wait
Wait for you to come home.
I burn my light brightly
Splitting the darkness
searching for you.
Me eyes grow tired and my heart grows weary
but I never stop.
My light must stay on
It will always be blazing
So you can find your way back home
to me
to my arms.
I yearn for that moment as
a sailor yearns for the sea
as the sea yearns for the shore.
For now, though, I must wait
with only the waves to keep me company.
Their rushing never leaves my ears
their pain never leaves my heart.
My light will stay on
to guide you home to my shores.
Where you will rest your anchor
and your tired head
on my shores and my chest
and we will finally find rest
from this weary world.
Together again.
And until that moment,
My light will always
Burn for you.
