We Both Know Poem by Alyssa Lynn

We Both Know

Girl:
We’re running in circles, thinking we’re gunna get somewhere. We both know what happens next. We both know this isn’t good for either of us. We both can’t accept it. Oh but babe I love you, and I want to love you forever if you let me. Oh we try, try just to make things right, just to be okay.

Who are we fooling? When will we realize we’re done? Why do we keep trying when we both should just walk away? Oh but we keep going, keep thinking we’ll finally change. Oh but when, when will we wake up? When will we accept it?

Boy:
We’re trying to rebuild this broken foundation, but it’s not possible to build a castle out of ashes. We’re both so determined to make this work, but we both refuse to change our ways. Oh but baby I want you, forever and always. But we’re so determined to fix things I don’t think we can ask…

Who are we fooling? When will we realize we’re done? Why do we keep trying when we both should just walk away? Oh but we keep going, keep thinking we’ll finally change. Oh but when, when will we wake up? When will we accept it?

Girl:
I know I know I’m pushing you away. I know there’s only so much you can take. I know I’ve been driving you crazy but babe we can do this, we can overcome the odds. I’m scared; I’m scared we’re unraveling. I don’t want us to fall apart I want to forever be your girl. What I refuse to ask myself is

Who are we fooling? When will we realize we’re done? Why do we keep trying when we both should just walk away? Oh but we keep going, keep thinking we’ll finally change. Oh but when, when will we wake up? When will we accept it?

Boy:
Baby I love you with all my heart, but there’s only so much I can stand. Baby love isn’t enough to keep us together. We’re falling, falling apart and we both can feel it. We both sense it. I know, I know you love me, but baby I’m bad news. I have to do what’s best for you.

Who are we fooling? When will we realize we’re done? Why do we keep trying when we both should just walk away? Oh but we keep going, keep thinking we’ll finally change. Oh but when, when will we wake up? When will we accept it?

Boy/Girl
The last thing I want to do is walk away, I would rather mend these wounds we made just to stay here, in your arms. Baby/Babe we can’t leave it like it is now. We have to make this work despite this world around us. We can overcome the odds. We can’t accept it we can’t ask ourselves...

Why are we still here? Why can’t we accept that we’re over? We must keep fighting, for our love. We have to find a way to change. We can’t wake up from this amazing dream….we can’t accept that we’re over.
