We Compete With Our Contemporaries Poem by Shalom Freedman

We Compete With Our Contemporaries

WE COMPETE WITH OUR CONTEMPORARIES

We compete with our contemporaries
Who will win the longest life-

Losing is one story
But there is no winning really-

Our contemporaries are who we are
When they go
We go also-

Standing alone in the end
In a world without friends
Is being gone also.
