We Use To Be Friends Poem by Oni Omotayo

We Use To Be Friends

The smiles are far and away,
There remained not a date for a sweet past
It's bygone, such days that never return
I thought we had a journey to make
I thought we meant those words-
When we spelled them with our hearts
We watch the world as it grows with us
We laughed and gossiped at it
Many scenes and sights awe our minds
We couldn't stop talking about our eventful experiences
We seems clever and smart when we walk together
And did count our foolishness laughing many days
We chase our lies but told the truth to ourselves
We seems godly yet we love our youthfulness
We flee and run after those girls
We listed their names and rehearsed our fancy words
Our love stories we took for a wine of affinity
We pitch our tent alike, and our waters were sweet
We were soul-mate, yes we use to be friends
We were a perfect team, though playful like a child
We were... when you said you will always be there
Our spoons were not know, we eat our food never to care who was watching.
Like babies we sleep not to worry on which side of the bed we were.
We were never cold... When we held our hands to grow old
We were partners when we had our young hearts.
All that ends our fairies was a feeling of time
We grew, matured, bigger and lonely
Our dreams took us away, to a far difference we never saw
The fetters of our friendship broke
We were hurt and we were lost
Lost to a distant land, lost to the shadows of what we use to be
Such a wall we put before us, it's costly putting down the blocks
Such a distance to our houses, but we use to know the roads.
Such a vast oceans in our heart and couldn't sail through the coast.
Echoes of desire persist across our walkway and it was in my thought alone.
...But we use to be friends, we use to be.
