'Wedding Bells' Poem by Ash Parker

'Wedding Bells'

Rating: 5.0

There’s an ache in my heart
The clocks ticking away
A countdown to disaster.
10 hours….7 hours….4 hours
just over an hour
and all will be over.

Moments of true loving, deep caring, whispered promises,
Holding hands, soft kisses, tender glances,
The warm comfort of your hugs…

‘It will be alright’ you said.
‘Never by your side’ you meant.

So much love, so much joy:
Happiness of yesterday, hopes of today,
Anticipation for tomorrow.
All, you took away.

Faithful you promised to be.
Always mine and forever we’ll be.
Life’s light you destroyed of mine.
What’s left is nothing but time.

The clocks ticking away, times almost there.
You’ll never be near again.
You giving someone else your name
All I’m left with is pain.
With the future we’d dreamt, never to attain.

Left behind in the shadows, with nothing but tears.
I wonder when the pain will cease,
that I may breath with ease.
The betrayal left behind,
Will always be enjoined
with the love you took of mine!
