Welcome To Reality Poem by Aimee Rozen

Welcome To Reality

The trees may stand tall
and the grass may be green,
but there is more beyond.
Ugliness can be seen.
You laugh and scream at picnics,
you see animals at the zoo,
you lay on the grass waiting for the sun...
but pollution won't let it through.
Buildings rise so high
even trees cannot compare,
always reaching for the sky,
but never getting there.
Boxes here and boxes there
made of steel and bricks.
Moving away from nature,
creating our own cliques.
The water is gray and sad,
no longer crystal clear;
trash lines the shores:
paper, plastic, glass bottles of beer.
The fashions may be happening,
and inventions are ticking away,
but how much longer will this last,
living like this day after day?
