What Do You Do? Poem by Michelle Tiddy

What Do You Do?

Rating: 5.0

What do you do when you're in love?
What does it feel like for you?
Somewhere, a place you've never visited
Rapturously appearing on the horizon
And messing with your sensibility?

Churning you around and around
In tidewaves of confusion.
Amazing heights, deep lows, never inbetweens.
Does it make you fall apart at the seams.
And beautifully fray into a thousand fibres?

Do you feel sick, can't sleep?
Wander around at 3.00am, wishing
You could just pick up the phone and call
Instead you put on the washing machine
And listen to a thousand love songs?

Of course each was written for just you
How do they know how you feel?
Magically recanting your passions and dreams.
They must have been talking about you.
Love, such a common denominator

Do you find yourself lost
When you're trying to buy groceries
Wondering how you'd like to make dinner
Together, forever, with his arms wrapped
Around your waist, never making it to the table

Do you want to hear his voice constantly?
Do you playback the answerphone just to be
Near him and his tones, because the velvet
Hugs you to his heart, cradles your soul
And sends shivers down your spine, mmmmmm

Do you see yourself in him...
A mirroring of you, but also filling in the gaps
Making you whole, dotting the 'i's, crossing the 't's
Finishing each others sentences with
That annoying perception that lovers have

Do you want to run a hundred miles
Into a rainforest and twirl dizzily
The drops on your face and nature all around
Slithering snakes and squawking parrots
It's all glorious when you're in love

Do you want to grow old together
Gently caressing each others wrinkled brow
Knowing which event put the line there..
Which storm, which lie, which argument,
Just to know someone so deeply

Do you smile so hard your face
Wants to crack into a million pieces
Do you realise that people look at you
And know, remember that glow, that simple
Beautiful shine in the eyes....

Love is a drug.....
Turns life into a kaleidoscope
The world is anew when you're in love
The sun shines brighter, the wind blows stronger
Music is louder, dreams are more real

What do you do when you're in love?
