What If I? Poem by John W. McEwers

What If I?

What if I broke down and cried?
What if I tried?
What if you cared enough to be my bride?
What if I lay face-down in the street?
What if I make beds with boxes of meat?
What if I fell in love with strangers I meet...
like you do.

What if I had been that guy?
What if I had the courage to say hi?
What if I didn't let you pass on by?
What if I seized opporutunity

What if I kicked off my happy mask?
What if I didn't feel up to the task?
What if I only had the courage to ask?
What if I married you...
beautiful girl I met at the steakhouse...
