What Is True Love Poem by Holly Jamestone

What Is True Love

If your love comes in a package
Lined with gems or family trusts
Expensive, gleaming sports cars
Or the things for which one lusts
If high net worth, financial strength
And money are your goal
Where will you turn for comfort
When you're empty in your soul

The love I know has value
Far beyond what one can hold
It's tender, gentle, caring
And its worth is manyfold
It's noticing a sunrise or a child
Or family pet
It's comforting the hurting
Or just settling a debt

It's filled with life's intangibles
And lined with common sense
It's paved with trust and latitude
Its value is immense
It's not a corporate ladder
Nor a social climbing run
It's solitude and peace within
Companionship and fun

It's watching as a young child smiles
Or looks up to her dad
It's loving reassurance
On a day one's feeling bad
It's holding on to what we know is real
Without a price
And counting on devotion
Without ever thinking twice

It's putting just one silver coin
Into the blind man's hand
And valuing the world itself
With masterful command
It's based upon forgiveness
As we turn the other cheek
And filled with a compassion
For the downtrodden or weak

I don't know all there is to know
But do know in my heart
The love I feel and have in me
Is helping to impart
A high regard for unity
For humankind and sharing
And carries me throughout my life
Down pathways lined with caring
