What Keeps Them Close? Poem by Sugar Bear

What Keeps Them Close?

Her mother laughs with her
But somethings eating at her mind
Replaying the disaster
She tried to leave behind

She feels empty and guilty
As she holds her in her arms
Regretting that in the beginning
She didn't want her at the time

She tried falling down the stairway
Even tried to overdose
But that only made the baby
Come too soon to let it go

It came out with problems
But she still loves it the same
Machines kept its heart throbbing
And she helt in the pain

Blame her for the baby's older
But she still deals with the defect
Bless her heart the day she told her
And it made the kid a wreck

Every time they speak together
It is always on her mind
Why did her mother never want her?
Why did she try to take her life?

Till this day she holds it against her
She's still wanting to know
Is this defect the only thing that keeps her
And her mother close?
