What Life Lies Desert Dormant? Poem by Terence George Craddock

What Life Lies Desert Dormant?

what dormant life lies
longing waiting hoping
sometimes years pending
for winter desert rains?

hoping dry deserts
miss life key rain
hoping to burst buds
forth in due season...

bloom bloom bloom
into glorious bloom
flower with wet rain
life may seed again...

dried sand brittle holds
no life in cracked layers
dried smooth mud ghosts
where are life patient hosts?

millions of virile seeds dormant
lying waiting in dry desert dust
waiting to bloom into glorious flower
waiting for a life spring first shower?

what difference will drops of rain make?
moisture rain into life seeds will shake?
overnight sterile desert springs into life
suddenly miraculously sprouted birth life...

from parched dust life will triumph must
water waiting long past triggered into action
rain sparks harsh landscape transformation
barren years replaced with fleeting vegetation...

explore borders flowers soon timed out
delicate short lived blooms must die soon
hot weather sucks moisture bleaks terrain
enjoy fleeting beauty before reverts to ruin?

waiting deserts
miss the rain
some deserts

bloom into glorious
flowered carpets
with water first rain
