What’s A Poem? Poem by Dr John Celes

What’s A Poem?

A poem is a fine way of speaking from one’s heart
Of anything under the sun or things you can imagine,
Things real or surreal, from fantasy, beautiful or ugly,
By word-painting or word sculpting, afilled with emotions,
That sways and captivates the readers’ hearts and evokes
Ideas, reactions apt or otherwise, making it enjoyable,
Creating a de ja vu or jamai vu effect upon his intellect,
Affording music and melody, rhyme and rhythm or freely writ,
Or talking of the divine or mundane, erotic or dark
–A feast for eyes and ears, mind and heart and soul,
That says things authoritatively, logically or abstract,
And drives home a fabulous, precious message of truth
For world to see or enthrall or delve, improve morals,
Or speak of nature, the best teacher and her secrets,
Or talk to or about God and his heavenly abode,
Making the earth a better place to live, almost heaven;
Reiterating the truth of everything, seen and unseen,
Proving the point that poesy is gift to select humans,
From God who inspires and gives insights and dreams
And chosen words that poets place in their best places,
So that the theme is taken to its logical end in high style,
Evoking a sense of deep satisfaction and contentment,
And special effects, using poetic elements that add beauty
To words and make the images to spring to life with magic,
That not all can do or all the time, and take to dizzy heights
Of romance, dreams, desires, ambitions, delusions, illusions,
Again and again, whenever one reads aloud or sings or hears!
A wordy result of the inspired moment that's stays timeless
