What Sam Left Dangling

What Sam left dangling leaves
me in suspense. I wait,
untangling webs he weaves,
believing I create;
it’s my prerogative
a bard like Beckett’s bums,
no less provocative
than God who never comes.

Inspired by Denis Donoghue’s response to my poem “Murphy’s Law, ” inspired by Eric Griffiths’ review of a performance of 'Waiting for Godot' in the TLS, May 15,2009. DD wrote:

Dear Gershon: I happened to read Griffith's essay in the TLS yesterday, so I was much prepared for your MURPHY'S LAW, which is very good, that is, very elegant. Do you see these poems as making explicit what SB left dangling? Or what virtue do you aspire to? ...DD
