When Abortions Cry Poem by Ramona Thompson

When Abortions Cry

Rating: 2.7

A dark rewrite of Prince's classic 80's hit When Doves Cry

Mama, dig if you will the picture
Of me growing inside of you
No bigger at this moment then your fist
The smooth soft skin of your soon to expand belly covers me
Can you my mama...can you picture this?

Dream if you can of
An operating room
An ocean of blood coating my once powerful bloom
Doctors strike with curious weapons
They seek to sever
Sever the cord between me and you

Chorus

How can you just throw me away like this?
So very cruel
So very cold
Maybe you think I'd be just too demanding
Maybe you think I'll turn out like my father too bold
Maybe you're afraid mother that I'll be just like you
Never satisfied
Why do you and daddy screaming so loud at each other?
Tell me, mother, if you can
Is this what it sounds like when abortions cry?

Touch if you will your stomach
Feel how I tremble so very afraid inside
I've got the butterflies all stirred up
Please, please think before you make a choice that sends me forever away
Remember mama, even abortions have souls

How can you just throw me away like this?
So very cruel
So very cold
Maybe you think I'd be just too demanding
Maybe you think I'll turn out like my father too bold
Maybe you're afraid mother that I'll be just like you
Never satisfied
Why do you and daddy screaming so loud at each other?
Tell me, mother, if you can
Is this what it sounds like when abortions cry?
