When Hope Becomes A Prayer Poem by Savita Tyagi

When Hope Becomes A Prayer

Rating: 4.9

A friend saddened by
World's perilous conditions and being
Full of compassion for human suffering
Remarked; on account of being atheist
I can not pray...

Still my hope is that we find solutions
To improve this miserable state of affairs
The other friend said
I will pray for calm and peace
Of world and you as well.

Listening to their conversation
Obvious was their concern for fellow being
And also their sense of helplessness
In solving the mega problems
Beyond their scope and reach.

One in lieu of his restrained capacity
Places his hope in others' ability
Other knowing the limitations
Of human effort places his trust
In a supreme anchor.

His hope becomes a prayer to call
Upon divine guidance and assistance
With sincere love and devotion
To light the path and give the courage
To keep working towards new solutions.

Hope and prayer words of great meaning
Both spring from human heart
As a reflection of human desire
In search for a protagonist to lead
And guide for betterment of all life.

And you know what they say
Where there is a desire
A will forms upon a human heart
Strong enough to collectively inspire others
To bring about a massive transformation.

It requires us to let go of our small identity
In terms of being an atheist, or a religious being
A democrat or a republican
A native or a foreigner and
Inspires us to think as one humanity.

When working towards the greater good
Think as one large human family
In a march forward of one human race
Never lose hope and never stop to pray.

His hope becomes a prayer to call Upon divine guidance and assistance With sincere love and devotion To light the path and give the courage To keep working towards new solutions. When our hopes are pitched in a supreme power in times of trials and tribulations, an ardent call rises from our heart for divine guidance and help! Then it becomes prayer! On some occasions, when our hearts are filled with gratitude, in humility we raise our hearts to that supernal power! That becomes even a better form of prayer! Very profound write, Savita!

I could not predict where your poem was going to end - Would it endorse nihilist position that effort is useless? Or would it turn to an (unreliable) outside force? Or would the conversation wear itself out and gradually evaporates? I should tell you, I paused in my reading after the fifth stanza, later realizing that was the half way point. and jotted down these thoughts. I was restless. I could not think of any idea to add to the discussion except a free floating doubt. T-H-E-N I finished the poem and had a sea-change inside. It's not that I have any solution or even a brilliant comment. No, what happened is the poem as a whole, when I finished, restored my HOPE - and isn't that enough in such pefrilous times? Thanks to you for your sincere efforts!

To look at God silently and to remain hopeful and optimistic is definitely a more effective prayer. A nice thoughtful poem..............10
