When I Grow Up… Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

When I Grow Up…

Everyone laughs loudly and rolls their eyes
When a child says something they don’t realize…
Like, 'When I grow up, I want to be a train.'
Some think poor kid, he has a funny brain.

Maybe this is a metaphor for what fills his desire.
He wants to be strong and have a heart of fire.
Gleaming brightly and streaking the countryside.
With the speed of horses and energy yet to be tried.

Meeting a long schedule that will certainly impress.
Announcing at each crossing that you are an express.
Looking for a route to find purpose and a destination.
Tooting, letting people know you've arrived at the station.

A train is something that you love and admire.
It gives you motivation and a wanting to aspire.
So to say you want to be one is not all that strange.
Makes sense to me; don’t let creative thinking change.

great write........It's the wonderment of a child's mind......if we could only bottle their essence and stay forever young at heart ; O)
