When I Laid Down My Head Poem by shirley hedrick

When I Laid Down My Head

When I laid down my head, I called your name
But you never answer

I thought I felt your body aganist mine
I reached out to touch you
But it was my pillow instead

I thought I felt you breath on me
But it was the cool night breeze
Blowing on me

I thought I heard you whisper to me
But when I answer You never
Said a thing

I thought I saw you standing beside my bed
But when I turned on the light
You weren't there

When I laid down my head, I called your name
But you never answer
