When I Write Poem by James Campbell

When I Write

Why, when I write,
do I feel I must be smart?
As if some complexity,
would bring added heart.
A touch of humour,
to lessen the tone.
When a poet writes,
a poet is alone.
The words must rhyme,
and fit a rhythm,
each line in time,
each thought is given,
that added expression,
intensity by style,
language is used,
in all of it's guile.
An obscure word,
with deeper meanings,
all of this effort,
just to explain one's feelings.

Enjoyable poem, great message - not needing to impress with being smart. When a poet writes a poet is alone - love that line. Thank you for sharing it. RoseAnn
